PVN Teammates Honor Juneteenth

In recognition of Juneteenth, Presbyterian Village North (PVN) teammates stepped away from their daily responsibilities for a field trip to the Dallas Civil Rights Museum organized by the culture committee.

The museum highlights the struggles, achievements and contributions of Black Americans throughout history, tracing the long journey toward freedom, equality and civil rights. Through experiencing the exhibits teammates gained a deeper understanding of the events and individuals who helped shape the nation’s progress.

Juneteenth is observed annually on June 19 and commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally learned of their freedom, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, Juneteenth serves as a celebration of freedom and the importance of preserving history.

The outing was put together to commemorate Juneteenth while creating space for teammates to learn together and engage in important conversations about history and its continued impact today.

“I think it’s important that different cultures learn about the Black culture to have a deeper understanding of the history and how we became who we are today. It’s important to learn about every culture the same way,” said Lauren Blake, PVN Rehab Office Manager.

This field trip served as a reminder that understanding history is essential to appreciating the progress that has been made and the work that continues ahead.
