PVN Celebrates Pride Month with “Love is Love” Happy Hour

LGBT Pride Month occurs each June and is dedicated to the celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pride. Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969, and has since spread world-wide to honor the movement for LGBT rights and celebrate LGBT culture.

Presbyterian Village North (PVN) hosted a Pride-themed “Love is Love” Happy Hour for residents on June 29. Approximately 80 residents attended this special event to celebrate, show support and promote for love and kindness for everyone.

“At PVN, we are so fortunate to be an inclusive retirement community. In fact, one of the reasons we decided to host a Pride Happy Hour is because we have several LGBT residents who are very involved in our community and they asked if we would help them celebrate love and kindness with this special event. We of course, were so excited to add this to our June calendar! In fact, we have had so many residents in support of the pride happy hour, many of them bought t-shirts to show their support and celebrate this day.” Lisa Englander, Director of Resident Services, said. She continued, “It is my hope that hosting this Pride Happy Hour in our retirement community sets the tone for acceptance and equality for all of us. I believe we are trendsetters in the best way, and I truly hope that one day Pride Happy Hours will be recognized and celebrated throughout all communities. We are so blessed with residents who want to celebrate and embrace everyone.”
