Teammate Spotlight: Daisy Fuentes

Forefront Living is pleased to introduce our newest Community Life teammate, Daisy Fuentes, Community Life Manager at Presbyterian Village North (PVN). She began her new role in late August and looks forward to getting to know the PVN residents while providing a variety of unique resident programming alongside wonderful Community Life, Spiritual, Wellness and Culinary teammates. We sat down with Daisy to get to know her better through a fun question and answer session and hope you enjoy learning more about her.

What are you passionate about regarding your professional role?
I am passionate about working with seniors! I knew from a young age that I wanted to be involved with seniors in some way. I was a sixth-grade music student when I performed with my classmates at local nursing homes and was profoundly moved by the joy we brought to those residents.

What makes you feel proud?
I am proud of my amazing parents who immigrated to the United States from Mexico as teenagers. They didn’t have the opportunity to further their education but instead worked to make ends meet. My dad worked as a bus boy and my mom was a housekeeper. Through their hard work and dedication, their careers advanced. My dad now owns a trucking business, and my mom holds a leadership position in the hospitality industry.

On the weekend, you can find me:
On the weekend, I enjoy spending quality time with my family. On Sundays, my extended family gathers at my grandparents’ house. This group includes my parents, my siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins – sometimes more than twenty family members! You can also find me at live music events or cheering on the Texas Rangers or my niece and nephews at their games.

What are some of your favorite foods and restaurants?
I like all cuisines but avoid seafood! Mexican food is comfort food for me, it reminds me of home. My favorite restaurants include CAVA, Gloria’s and Meso Maya. At CAVA, I always order the Avocado Harissa Bowl and at Meso Maya, I recommend the chile relleno. Try the flan at Gloria’s for a delicious dessert!

Tell us about your hobbies:
I enjoy photography, dancing and traveling. I especially enjoy exploring new cities in Mexico. This summer, I traveled to Mexico City and Guanajuato. I also love flower arranging – for display at my own home or as a gift to friends and family members.

Tell us a little more about your family:
I am extremely close to my family. My parents, Lazaro and Virginia, have been married for 43 years. I am the baby of my family and have an older brother, Julio and an older sister, Mayra. I adore my niece and nephews – Sofia, age 12, Ethan, age 11 and Emiliano, age 8. If you happen to see me on Facetime, it’s usually with one or all three of them at the same time.

How would your friends describe you?
My friends would describe me as loyal, reliable, bubbly and an active listener with a great memory.

On Friday, August 25, PVN residents were invited to get to know Daisy better during a morning breakfast gathering called “Donuts with Daisy.” The sweet occasion was a delicious way to welcome the newest member of the Community Life team.
