Since Elvis Presley’s death on August 16, 1977, an annual celebration known as Elvis Week takes place in August and honors one of the biggest icons in music history. Elvis Week 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Elvis’ Aloha from Hawaii concert and the 55th anniversary of Elvis’ 1968 Comeback Special. On August 14, the Presbyterian Ukulele Players (PUPs) paid tribute to all things Elvis during a special performance of some of The King of Rock and Roll’s greatest hits. The concert took place in Presbyterian Village North’s (PVN) McGowan Auditorium to a crowd of Elvis-loving PVN residents. The festive group donned apparel fit for The King, including Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses complete with Elvis’ infamous sideburns.

Residents were invited to enjoy Elvis-inspired refreshments including peanut butter, banana and bacon crumble tea sandwiches and dill pickle pinwheels, while singing along to a selection of favorite songs by The King as well as Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash and Dean Martin. The combination of music, food and fun atmosphere captured the joy Elvis’ music still brings to fans of all ages today.
