PVN Spreads Hope through Volunteerism

April is National Volunteer Month, a month dedicated to honoring volunteers and encouraging volunteerism, and teammates and residents at Presbyterian Village North (PVN) have partnered to volunteer regularly at The Stewpot, a ministry of First Presbyterian Church in Dallas, offering a safe haven for homeless and at-risk citizens. Additionally, the ministry provides resources to help these unhoused and impoverished Dallas neighbors with their basic needs as well as opportunities to improve their living situation.

Earlier this month, PVN Assisted Living residents, living in Joyce Hall, assembled 120 “Hygiene Kits” to gift to The Stewpot. Each hygiene kit contained travel-sized essentials such as deodorant, shampoo, shaving cream and toothpaste as well as a bar of soap, razor, toothbrush and washcloth for those in need. Independent Living residents generously donated funds and supplies for the kits and delivered them to The Stewpot during their monthly volunteer outing to the organization. Residents serving at The Stewpot dish out meals from the serving line, distribute trays, refill drinks and assist with table clean up, while sharing smiles and love with everyone around.

In addition to residents, the PVN Therapy team also volunteers regularly and recently served at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) in Richardson, a Christian nonprofit organization, that works with food distribution partners to provide MannaPack® meals to 90 countries around the globe, allowing children to grow, thrive and develop to their full potential.

This collaboration between PVN residents and teammates exemplifies the power of community and compassion, making a positive impact locally and globally.

PVN residents have the opportunity to volunteer monthly at The Stewpot and should contact Denise Odom for more information.
