April marks Parkinson’s Awareness Month—a time to spotlight a neurological disorder that affects nearly 1 million Americans and more than 10 million people worldwide. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the fastest-growing neurological condition globally, with U.S. diagnoses rising to nearly 90,000 annually—a 50% increase from previous estimates.
In response to this growing need, Presbyterian Village North (PVN) in Dallas has achieved Certified Parkinson Disease Care (CPDC) Community status. This designation reflects PVN’s commitment to providing specialized care for residents living with Parkinson’s. Through rigorous training, staff members have become CPDC advocates, equipping them with best practices in Parkinson’s care. PVN offers not only medical support but also educational resources and support groups for both residents and their caregivers.
Projections indicate that Parkinson’s cases in the U.S. could rise by up to 60% by 2050. This underscores the importance of awareness and the need for communities to provide comprehensive support. PVN’s proactive approach serves as a model for how communities can adapt to meet the needs of those affected by Parkinson’s.
As we observe Parkinson’s Awareness Month we recognize and support initiatives that make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families navigating this challenging disease. Learn more about PVN’s certification here. Connect with Dallas Area Parkinson Society (DAPS) here.
