On Saturday, May 4, the residents of Presbyterian Village North (PVN) held the community’s first disc golf tournament! Disc golf is a game where players throw a disc into a series of baskets or targets in as few throws as possible, combining elements of traditional golf with the fun and accessibility of throwing a frisbee. This temporary course was set up on campus on the lawn of the demolished Healthcare Building.
Twenty-four residents participated in the activity and dazzled onlookers with their putting skills, making every shot count! The tournament brought a vibrant atmosphere to PVN, with residents and volunteers cheering each other on throughout the competition. Players of all skill levels participated, showcasing the importance of staying active and engaged. The tournament also highlighted the inclusive nature of disc golf as a sport for all ages.
The successful event provided intergenerational connections between the residents and volunteers, including Jackson McDonald (grandson of Emmitt Nelson) and an amazing group of 9th graders from Ursuline Academy! The PVN Community Life team would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Betty Graham, who coordinated the caddies and Elspeth and Philip Nelson for all of their assistance in executing this event. Plans are in the works for a fall tournament to be held in September or October on the PVN campus.
