PVN Therapy team volunteers to pack food for children

Presbyterian Village North (PVN) therapy teammates joined different groups from across DFW to volunteer in packing food for children in need around the world. PVN teammates volunteer around 3x’s a year at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), a Christian non-profit organization in Richardson.

FMSC needs volunteers around the clock 5x a day and 6 days a week to pack food for around 83 countries in need.

“We are so grateful for people like PVN, the community at PVN that comes in and volunteers more than once a year,” says Larissa Reeh, Richardson Site Manager.

The packaged food includes vitamins, vegetables, soy and rice. “Those vitamins are the perfect little power punch to help those kids get the nutrition they need. Our vegetables are there for color and texture, so freeze dried carrot and potatoes, It just gives a little bit of fun and festive color in the meals. Our soy is our protein source and then our rice is there as a filler, so it acts like that extra little bonus carbohydrate for those meals and as our universal grain,” says Reeh.

The food is distributed to the multiple partners to determine where to deliver.

“It does go to mainly schools and children and our meals are kind of formulated to help kids who are at the age of 5 and up. We also serve at hospitals and communities and elderly who maybe don’t have access to food as well,” says Reeh.

Another way to help is by purchasing from the marketplace.

“Those items are made in country. So artisans are being paid for that item that they are creating, so another great way to provide meals is to purchase items through our marketplace and shop,” says Reeh.
