PVN Celebrates Home Front Heroes Day

On Tuesday, May 9, residents of Presbyterian Village North (PVN) joined together to celebrate and formally acknowledge Home Front Heroes Day, a day honoring the many Americans who worked on the home front supporting the war effort, during World War II and beyond. PVN resident and World War II veteran, John “Lucky” Luckadoo spearheaded this effort five years ago to establish a day recognizing the support, work and sacrifice of everyone on the home front, during times of war.

Corena Mitchell, Director of Attitudes & Attire’s Boots to Heels Program, was the featured keynote. As the spouse of a military veteran and a veteran herself, Corena spoke about her personal experience of staying on the home front and the challenges presented through her husband’s deployments. She also shared about the purpose she has found in serving other women going through similar situations.

Because of Lucky’s vision and the efforts of those associated with this movement, local, state and national support for this day is growing! Dallas Mayor, Eric Johnson, declared May 9 as Home Front Heroes Day in the city of Dallas for the fifth consecutive year and Congressman Colin Allred sent this newsletter on Home Front Heroes Day to his subscribers, discussing the importance and reason for his support and reintroduction of the bi-partisan resolution to make Home Front Heroes Day a nationally recognized day.

We are thankful for our Home Front Heroes today and every day! Click here for WFAA’s coverage of this event.
