On May 5, Presbyterian Village North (PVN) residents gathered in the community Game Room to enjoy a delicious lunch featuring Mexican-inspired cuisine, catered by PVN’s culinary team, to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Cinco De Mayo, a day to celebrate Mexican American culture, commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862. The victory is also significant to Texans because on that day, General Ignacio Seguín Zaragoza, a Texas native, successfully led the defense of the city of Puebla against the French.
The festive lunch menu included rice, beans and beef fajitas as well as watermelon and pineapple agua fresca, refreshing fruit drinks popular in Mexico. Residents had the opportunity to take an afternoon siesta before heading to the PVN Cinco De Mayo Happy Hour held in the Alcove.
