July assisted living activities

July has been a fun and lively month for residents in Assisted Living (AL) at Presbyterian Village North (PVN). From special celebrations to creative activities and time spent together, there’s been no shortage of meaningful moments. Here’s a quick look at some of the highlights.

Independence Day Parade

Presbyterian Village North (PVN) was bursting with red, white and blue as residents, teammates and their four-legged friends gathered for PVN’s 19th Annual Pet-riotic Parade. What started nearly two decades ago as a sweet idea from residents Joe and Rosie Nall has grown into a beloved campus tradition. Although Rosie passed some years back and Joe earlier this year, their legacy of joy and togetherness marched on in full force.

One especially touching part of the morning was the pass-through of the Assisted Living and Memory Support neighborhoods. As the dogs trotted by, residents lit up with joy. A few reached out for pets, others clapped or called out to their favorite furry friends. Later, the residents enjoyed ice cream, pledged allegiance to the flag and sang patriotic songs together. The afternoon went out with a bang as residents were treated to a hot dog and hamburger cookout.

Nineteen years in, the Pet-riotic Parade continues to bring heart, laughter and connection to the PVN community. It’s a reminder that sometimes the simplest traditions—like a walk, a song and a happy dog — can create the most lasting memories.

Japanese Flower Arrangements

At Presbyterian Village North (PVN), creativity is always in full bloom — especially when our Assisted Living residents try something new. This month, the spotlight was on Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging.

Guided by a skilled instructor, residents discovered that Ikebana is more than just placing flowers in a vase. It’s a calming, intentional practice that blends nature, balance and beauty. Using delicate stems, vibrant blooms and thoughtful placement, each PVN participant created their own unique floral arrangement — each one a quiet expression of artistry and reflection.

Burnt S’mores Band

At Presbyterian Village North, music brought everyone together in the most heartwarming way when resident Sherry Latson invited a special guest – her brother! He and his band, the Burnt S’mores, treated residents to a lively concert full of toe-tapping favorites. From familiar favorites to feel-good singalongs, the tunes were just right for the crowd. Thanks to Sherry and the Burnt S’mores for turning an ordinary day into a memorable one!

Champion Ropers

Presbyterian Village North (PVN) recently enjoyed a taste of rodeo excitement, thanks to resident Anne Norvell and her great grandsons. The boys, both champion heelers in rodeo competitions, have won an impressive 28 buckles for their roping skills. They brought their dummy bull to PVN for a special demonstration, showcasing their talent and precision for an enthusiastic crowd. Residents were amazed by the action and enjoyed every moment of the unique entertainment. It was a rootin’-tootin’ good time, and a wonderful way to celebrate family and fun!
