On Monday, residents of Presbyterian Village North (PVN) came together to observe Home Front Heroes Day, a tribute to the civilians whose support from the home front made a lasting impact during times of deployment and war. The patriotic program featured keynote speaker David Vobora, a former NFL linebacker, founder of the Adaptive Training Foundation (ATF) and a 2025 Each Moment Matters Luncheon Honoree.
Vobora, inspired by working with injured veterans, shared his journey of purpose and how he transformed his mess into a message. A pre-ordained encounter with U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and quadruple amputee Travis Mills changed Vobora’s life for the better and he invited Mills to train at his gym. His foundation, ATF, empowers injured veterans through adaptive performance training, a mission that reflects the spirit behind Home Front Heroes Day.
Vobora shared, “I come from a very patriotic family – three generations of Marines. This is my way to be of service to these men and women who gave so much.”
Special remarks were also shared by Major John “Lucky” Luckadoo, beloved PVN resident, 103-year-old WWII veteran and founder of Home Front Heroes Day. Featured in Apple TV’s “The Bloody Hundredth,” Luckadoo officially established the day in 2019, to recognize the unsung heroes like family members, caregivers and essential workers, who support our nation and our troops from home.
“We have Memorial Day. We have Veterans Day. We have the Fourth of July,” said Luckadoo. “But we don’t have any day devoted to recognizing and thanking those millions of people who made it possible for us to prevail.”
Together, Vobora and Luckadoo highlight the strength of service and community, on the battlefield and at home. David and his wife Sarah will be recognized as 2025 Each Moment Matter (EMM) Honorees for their servant-hearted work. Please make plans to join us on Thursday, October 16, at the Hilton Anatole for the EMM Luncheon.
