At Presbyterian Village North (PVN), fall arrived with a spirit of togetherness and joy for our independent living residents. From local adventures to cozy campus events, the season offered countless opportunities to soak in the charm of autumn. Take a look back at some of the memorable moments that made this past month truly special.
PVN Breakfast with Champions: Celebrating Survivors
It’s a group no one wants to see grow, yet there is something incredibly powerful about the sense of community when these women come together. At Presbyterian Village North, 20 residents and teammates gathered in the sunny Hawthorne Sky Lounge for a special Pink Ribbon Breakfast to celebrate breast cancer survivors.
The event gave these remarkable women a chance to share their stories of diagnosis, treatment and recovery while offering encouragement and hope to others. They spoke about the importance of starting screenings early, advocating for oneself and encouraging daughters and granddaughters to do the same.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to honor strength, raise awareness and remind everyone that one in eight women will face a breast cancer diagnosis in her lifetime. Regular mammograms and early detection have never been more important.

Celebrating Light and Community: Diwali at PVN
Residents at Presbyterian Village North (PVN) recently gathered in the chapel to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The interfaith program, led by Rev. Gary Fox, PVN’s Director of Spiritual Life, gave Independent Living residents a chance to learn about the meaning and traditions of this special holiday that celebrates light overcoming darkness and the victory of good over evil.
After sharing information about Diwali, Rev. Fox handed out a short guide and invited everyone to make their own mini lanterns. The chapel was soon filled with laughter, color and the warm glow of creativity.
It was a wonderful afternoon reminding residents that no matter their faith or background, all can celebrate the light that brings us together.
