August events at pvn

At Presbyterian Village North (PVN), August was packed with fun-filled events and outings for independent living residents. From exciting trips around town to engaging events right on campus, there was no shortage of opportunities to connect and wind down the summer season. Here’s a look back at some of the memorable moments that made this month extra special.

Stitched with Love: PVN Resident Shines at 2025 Plano Quilt Show

Presbyterian Village North (PVN) residents recently enjoyed a colorful day at the 2025 Plano Quilt Show, one of Texas’ premier quilting events. Thirteen residents made the trip to the Plano Event Center to experience the incredible creativity, craftsmanship and community that fills the show each year.

This year’s event featured over 300 stunning quilts, a lively Mini Quilt Auction, special exhibits and plenty of vendors offering everything from fabric to handmade treasures. Among the highlights was PVN resident Patsy Padgett, who proudly displayed her own quilting creations in a booth, sharing her artistry with visitors from near and far.

From intricate designs to bold patterns, the quilts on display told stories stitched with care and passion. For our PVN group, the show was more than just a feast for the eyes — it was a celebration of talent, tradition and the joy of creating something beautiful by hand.

PVN Residents Visit Dallas Fire Station 22
A group of 12 Presbyterian Village North (PVN) residents recently got a behind-the-scenes look at life inside Dallas Fire Station 22. The popular outing filled up fast, with firefighters leading an hourlong tour of the station, answering questions and posing for photos.

The visit was extra special because the PVN Foundation has recently donated $10,000 each to Stations 22 and 28 who serve the PVN community. These gifts helped buy workout equipment, nightstands and a custom dinner table. Residents loved seeing how their support made a difference and left with an even greater appreciation for the first responders’ daily work.

Creativity Flows at PVN’s Modular Art Project
Presbyterian Village North (PVN) residents gathered in the PVN Art Center for a relaxing and creative session led by Nancy Johnson. With glasses of wine in hand, participants explored the art of modular design — combining smaller pieces to create one beautiful, cohesive masterpiece.

The atmosphere was lighthearted and inspiring as residents experimented with colors, textures, and shapes, each work reflecting the artist’s personal style. It was an afternoon of connection, creativity, and plenty of smiles as everyone enjoyed the process as much as the finished product.

PVN Residents Explore Earth’s Wonders at UNT Sky Theater
On August 12, a group of 25 Presbyterian Village North (PVN) residents enjoyed an awe-inspiring outing to the UNT Sky Theater to watch Dynamic Earth, an award-winning full dome documentary narrated by Liam Neeson.

The film took viewers on a visually stunning journey through the inner workings of our planet’s climate system. Using satellite data and advanced computer simulations, Dynamic Earth traced the flow of energy from the Sun into the interconnected systems that shape life on Earth — the atmosphere, oceans and biosphere.

Residents left the theater with a deeper appreciation for the beauty and complexity of our world, along with plenty of conversation about the experience during the ride home.

Residents Share Laughter and Sunshine Over a Game of Croquet
Residents at Presbyterian Village North enjoyed a friendly afternoon game of croquet on the lawn. Laughter carried across the field as players cheered each other on and celebrated well-aimed shots. The relaxed game gave neighbors a chance to connect, share stories and soak up the sunshine. It was a simple yet joyful way to spend the day together.

Residents Inspired by Visit to Patriot Paws and Its Mission to Support Veterans
Residents from Presbyterian Village North recently visited Patriot Paws to learn more about the organization’s mission of training service dogs for veterans. During the visit, they met several dogs in training and heard stories about how these companions change lives by offering support and independence. The experience left residents inspired and grateful for the dedication and care that goes into preparing each dog to serve those who have served our country.

PVN Residents Visit Adaptive Training Foundation

A group of 10 Presbyterian Village North (PVN) residents recently enjoyed a special outing to the Adaptive Training Foundation (ATF) in Carrollton. The visit included a tour of the impressive facility, which provides transformative training for individuals with life-altering injuries. Residents also gathered for lunch together after the tour, making it a day filled with connection and inspiration.

The trip was made even more meaningful because of PVN’s friendship with ATF founder David Vobora, who will be honored at the Each Moment Matters Luncheon this year and was initially introduced to residents on Home Front Heroes Day.
