PVN Hosts CME Event

On Friday, April 28, Presbyterian Village North (PVN) hosted a group of nearly 70 guests, professionally comprised of social workers, physicians, nurses and case workers for a Continuing Medical Education (CME) event called “All Aboard the Love Boat.” The one-day event, where guests earned 4.5 continuing education units for medical licensing or certification, featured two speakers including Colleen Becvar, Gerontologist and certified geriatric care manager, and Dr. Thomas Johnson, Geriatric Physician at the University of Colorado Health Seniors Clinic. Becvar facilitated three sessions entitled “Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll,” covering the delicate topics of sexual activity and drug usage within senior care. Dr. Johnson delivered an informative and inspirational speech entitled “Longevity,” sharing tips to keep our brains and bodies in optimal condition in order to live to be 100 years old and beyond.

Between speaker sessions, the CME guests enjoyed entertaining performances proving that there is more to senior activities than just playing Bingo! Demonstrations included Drum Ball (cardio drumming), chair yoga and Rock Steady Boxing, boxing geared towards those diagnosed with Parkinsons. PVN’s Ukulele Group, the PUPs (PVN Ukulele Players), also showcased their musical talent.

In addition to the educational programming offered, Lisa Englander, PVN Director of Resident Services, led a group tour around the beautiful PVN campus. Guests enjoyed the serene backdrop while learning about the exciting upcoming campus events and occurrences. The event concluded with a lively happy hour featuring sips and snacks by the PVN culinary team. PVN was happy to host this event offering the opportunity to further educational growth in the senior living industry. Proceeds from the event went to support Pajamas for Seniors, a non-profit organization aiming to provide a new pair of pajamas to low-income seniors in area nursing and assisted living homes.
