Sew and Sews Annual Report

By: Janice Bently, Bugle Staff Writer

January 2015, Issue 397

The year 2014 was another very successful one for the Sew and Sews. One November 6, PVN had its first Holiday Bazaar where we had a booth and sold many of the items we make. A total of $1,029 was collected. On December 5 we had our own bazaar in the Corrigan Building and collected an additional $802. All money will be used to buy supplies for next year. Thanks to Lisa Englander and Letty Valdez for all their assistance. We could not have done it without them.

The group made a total of 1,673 stuffed animals, 302 taggies, 480 ouchies, 1,366 crocheted and knit-ted baby and kid caps, and 26 quilts. Not counting what was sold, everything was donated to PediPlace (a pediatric clinic for children whose parents are un-insured or receive Medicaid or CHIP benefits).

We made and donated 507 pillows to Presbyterian Hospital. In addition, 153 adult chemo caps—all knitted by Esther Laufer, a PVN resident volunteer—went to the Oncology Department at the hospital.

A total of 4,507 items were created by the Sew and Sews this year. We thank all who supported our efforts by purchasing items throughout the year.
