For PVN’s Rehab Department, 2014 was a busy and exciting year, with outstanding growth and new initiatives. Including residents, we had more than 1200 different patients come through our rehab program, nearly 10 percent more than in 2013. For those patients who came to us for short-term services we successfully helped more than 90 percent of them return to their previous place of residence.

In April we were proud to introduce Julie Cravens MS PT as the manager of our IL/AL and HCU rehabilitation teams. She has more than 20 years’ experience in senior living communities. Since joining our team, she has helped establish dedicated therapy teams who specialize in treating residents at their current functioning level to help them stay healthy and active and thus avoid having to relocate because of physical or cognitive declines.

During the year we continued to grow our relationships with local universities and have become a leader in Dallas in developing and training the next generation of therapists. Through partnerships with Texas Women’s U. (TWU), U. of Texas Dallas (UTD), and several other local colleges, we were able to host twenty-five students last year for clinical rotations. Because of the success of our student pro-gram, these institutions are selecting their best and brightest students to complete their rotations with us. Additionally, two of our speech language pathologists, Rachel Stock and Felicia Smith, presented lectures at UTD covering the treating of the elderly in a CCRC setting.

Lastly, we are excited to be able to offer our residents several new specialty programs and services across the community, including Aquatic Rehab, Pain Reduction Programs, Pre/Post Joint Replacement Therapy, Neurologic Rehabilitation, Balance Training and Fall Prevention, Pelvic Floor Muscle Retraining, Cognitive Assessments and Training, Speech and Voice Therapy, Dysphagia Therapy, Low Vision Services, Vestibular Rehabilitation, LSVT (BIG&LOUD), specialty treatment for Parkinson’s, and Home Safety evaluations.

We’re proud to serve such a health- and wellness-minded community and look forward to being a part of the lives of those who are here.
